Hello, voyager! I'm Hel (she/they), an indie sci-fi and fantasy writer, reader, astrophysicist, cat parent, lover of all kinds of storytelling, hot comfort beverages, and a universe full of stars.
I was born in Hungary and raised in a small village a few miles off the shores of Lake Balaton. I was often described by teachers as someone always having “her head in the clouds”, and I spent the first fifteen years of my life mostly consuming books from my parents’ home library, watching some great 90’s sci-fi shows, and working on a somewhat eclectic music taste. After several arduous years of obtaining an astrophysics degree, I currently live in Wales with a small family of a wonderful boyfriend and Puddle, the tortoiseshell cat.
I write hopeful, character-driven sci-fi, fantasy, and all things speculative, centering found families, traumatized adults finding agency and community, and of course, fun (and dangerous!) magic and/or technology. I published my debut space opera, Skylark in the Fog, in 2022, then the first in a dark fantasy duology, Imbued, in 2024. Through a Window Darkly is a novella in the universe of Skylark that started its life as a Choose Your Own Adventure-experiment on a writing server.
Currently, I'm working on the sequel of Imbued, a paranormal horror, and several fantasy short stories and novellas taking place in brand new fictional worlds.
